Code/Selected Art Fair 16 — Visual Identity
Art Copenhagen prides itself of being the eldest and leading organiser of art fairs in Copenhagen. However, in order to accommodate the more segregated art audience of the future, the organizers decided to split the fair into two parts: Selected Art Fair who represent traditional art, and Code Art Fair who deal with more contemporary and contentious art. The two fairs continue to share their communication, but each element is represented with the emphasis on either characteristic: Selected or Code. When communicating this new fair structure, a demand arose to create a new identity and language that would be able to speak for itself as well as breaking with the classic conventions in the public sphere and traditional commercial channels. Like the art they represent, Art Copenhagen needed a voice and style that would get their recipients to pause, reflect and ask questions. The identity is based on a simple insight into the human being as well as the surrounding society’s interaction with art. It acts around the fact that people mirror themselves in art and art mirrors itself with society. The identity captures this reversed image and the reflection, ie. it becomes a visual identity that utilize and visualize the instruments of art through the most simple and straightforward tools: mirrored words and messages.
